Dr. Dewan earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry at Texas A&M University. He then went on to receive a Masters Degree in Biochemistry from North Texas State University. Dr. Dewan received his Medical Degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas. He then joined the United States Army where he served for 14 years. He underwent his training in Internal Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center, which was followed, by training at the National Cancer Institute in the field of Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Dewan is a member of several professional organizations to include the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Osteopathic Medical Association and the Indiana Medical Society. He has served on the tumor board of Columbus Regional Hospital as well as multiple other committees of the hospital staff. He was most recently director of the Integrated Medicine Center at Columbus Regional Hospital where he oversaw the combination of Acupuncture, Biofeedback, and Massage Therapy with conventional medical care. He provides herbal counseling and education for his cancer patients. Dr. Dewan has been listed with several national honor associations.
