Dr. Tom Dugan is a native of central Indiana. He graduated from North Central High School in 1978. He then attended and graduated summa cum laude from DePauw University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine with Highest Distinction from Indiana University in 1986.
Dr. Dugan's post-graduate training began with a Transitional Internship from 1986-87 at the Methodist Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis. He then completed a residency in Radiation Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston during the years 1987-90. He was Chief Resident during that final year.
After completing his training, Dr. Dugan returned to central Indiana in 1990 and joined the group which is now the Cancer Care Group. He currently sees patients at the group's St. Francis (Indianapolis) and Riverview (Noblesville) locations.
Dr. Dugan has a particular interest in cancers of the prostate and other pelvic sites. He has been instrumental in the introduction of the B.A.T. ultrasound for daily localization of the prostate during external beam radiotherapy for prostate cancer at the St. Francis South Campus. He has also introduced prostate brachytherapy to the Methodist and St Francis hospitals in Indianapolis. He is keenly interested in developing strategies to reduce the musculoskeletal toxicities of long-term hormonal therapy for prostate cancer.
Dr. Dugan is married and he and his wife have three sons. In his spare time, he is a passionate golfer, a runner, and a basketball fan.
